Mural in Progress, Artist at work

I’ve made some great strides in the mural, adding on different landmarks and symbols.  Take a look.  Keep in mind, it’s not finished, there will be changes, additions and details. This is so much fun.

A good time was had by all

This Saturday was “Second Saturday” at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA.  I decided to be more of a facilitator this time around and provide a free make and take workshop for anyone.  It was great! I had about 50 participants come in and hang out, while creating really beautiful pieces of art, allContinue reading “A good time was had by all”

Happy NEW Year!

It’s been a while since I have updated the blog. I was busy working on the large painting  (11 feet by 6 feet), I put together work for a show that opens this week, and made time to visit family and friends over the winter break.   Well, it’s time to hit the ground running againContinue reading “Happy NEW Year!”

New Series…beginning

After a wonderful opening this weekend at the Workhouse Arts Center, I am back at it again.  This time I’ve decided to work on some wood.  I ordered some cypress wood rounds, and decided to go back to using some thread.  So I don’t know if this qualifies as a painting.  Right now it seemsContinue reading “New Series…beginning”

Work time

So, it actually feels like summer in this part of the world right now.  For so long we’ve been really lucky in having a warm, but not hot and humid, summer. Until now.  But that’s ok.  It just makes me want to go to the studio a whole lot more.   I had some time offContinue reading “Work time”

Creating my own virtual world

Are you tired of the Pokemon phenomenon yet?  It takes me back to when I started teaching and had to take away all the Pokemon pongs during class because the sixth graders were out of control with their virtual games.  It seems like Pokemon is a good distraction for some, but what about art?  ArtContinue reading “Creating my own virtual world”

New ideas

I’ve been playing around with some new ideas, and I think I’m liking it.  One of the benefits of having this studio and time out in the community at P22 is that I get to practice art.  Right?  I mean if you want to be good at something, you have to keep practicing, exploring andContinue reading “New ideas”

Summer time in the Studio

It’s my first week in my studio since I don’t know when.  It’s allowed me to work on a lot of projects that have been pushed to the side or stuck in my head.  This week I’ve already made some movement on some large paintings that should have been completed months ago, but I guessContinue reading “Summer time in the Studio”

Summer Schedule

So, it is summer! Workhouse Arts Center, Building 6: July 6 – July 22:  Wednesdays, Thursdays,Continue reading “Summer Schedule”

Making art in public

For so long I’ve been used to making art in the comfort of my own home. This year I’ve been offered the opportunity to take my art public.  It can be a bit daunting.  I’ve always thought it’s been important to make are for oneself, but I never really considered art for the masses.  EvenContinue reading “Making art in public”
