By transforming the familiarity of maps into new forms and shapes, my work evokes a new sense of place. The information of maps and knowledge contained within, bring a sense of foreignness and curiousness as I manipulate old material into new information. Using a variety of materials and tools allow me to create complex textures and layers with canvas, paper, paint, thread and ink. These multi-layered, mixed media paintings address familiar themes of place and identity.  By representing rivers, waterways, and coastlines my work creates a relationship between land and waterways that echo the rhythm and diversity of the water’s paths and the stories of human interaction.

Nearly all spaces seem temporary to me,

I try to make them feel like mine sometimes,

If they mean something.
